Luísa Ferreira was born in Lisbon, Portugal, in 1961. Although her academic background is in Geography, she soon traded the course for photography. She began to photograph professionally in the 80s and interrupted her daily work as a photojournalist in 1998 after having worked for 7 years in the newspaper Público and 2 years for Associated Press, the North-American Press Agency. Parallel to that, she has been exhibiting solo since 1989 and developing both personal and commissioned projects namely, "http://www.luisaferreira.com/index_e.php?pag=docas/index.html""Os objectos já não têm cores / mas as sombras dos objectos têm as cores deles / um amigo meu / que tem a chave das docas / também pensa assim" (Picabia), at Armazém AB at the Lisbon Docks, 1993; "http://www.luisaferreira.com/index_e.php?pag=goma/index.html" "Capitão Goma", at Casa d’Os Dias da Água in Lisbon, in 2003; "http://www.luisaferreira.com/index_e.php?pag=fj/index.html" "fora de jogo", brought about by Arte em Campo at the Arts Institute in 2004. She exhibited at the Encontros de Imagem (Image Encounters) in Braga in 1994, 1995 and 1996 and at the Encontros de Fotografia (Photographic Encounters) in Coimbra in 1994. She also took part in group exhibitions both at home and abroad. She published, amongst others, the book "http://www.luisaferreira.com/index_e.php?pag=azul/index.html" "azul" (2002) --about non-places-- whose text is by Agustina Bessa-Luís, edited by Ambar. She is represented in several national and international collections. She has been teaching Photojournalism at IADE - Instituto de Artes Visuais, Design e Marketing (since 1996) and ETIC - Escola Técnica de Imagem e Comunicação (since 1998).
